 introduced the following bill; which was referred to the Committee on

                                 A BILL

 
 To temporarily expand the authorized uses of grants awarded under the 
 Veterans Legacy Program of the National Cemetery Administration, and 
                          for other purposes.

    Be it enacted by the Senate and House of Representatives of the 
United States of America in Congress assembled,

SECTION 1. VETERANS LEGACY PROGRAM GRANTS FOR LOCATING, IDENTIFYING, 
              AND INTERRING UNCLAIMED OR ABANDONED REMAINS OF VETERANS.

    (a) In General.--Notwithstanding section 1(a)(3) of Public Law 116-
107 (38 U.S.C. 2400 note), during the period specified in subsection 
(b), an entity in receipt of a grant under the Veterans Legacy Program 
may use such grant to assist the Secretary of Veterans Affairs in--
            (1) locating unclaimed or abandoned human remains suspected 
        to be the remains of a veteran;
            (2) determining whether such remains are the remains of a 
        veteran; or
            (3) interring such remains in a national cemetery under the 
        jurisdiction of the Secretary.
    (b) Period Specified.--The period specified in this subsection is 
the period beginning on the date of the enactment of this Act and 
ending on the last day of the second fiscal year beginning after such 
date.
    (c) Limitation on Budget Request Amounts.--Amounts made available 
for grants used for the purposes described in subsection (a) shall not 
be requested in addition to amounts otherwise intended to be requested 
for the Veterans Legacy Program in any annual budget request of the 
President that is submitted under section 1105 of title 31, United 
States Code.
    (d) Veterans Legacy Program Defined.--In this section, the term 
``Veterans Legacy Program'' has the meaning given such term in Public 
Law 116-107.
