RES. 1165 Congratulating the University of Michigan Wolverines men's basketball team on winning the 2026 National Collegiate Athletic Association Division I Men's Basketball Championship. _______________________________________________________________________ IN THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES April 13, 2026 Mrs. Dingell (for herself, Mrs. McClain, Ms. McDonald Rivet, Ms. Tlaib, Ms. Underwood, Mr. Thanedar, Ms. Stevens, Mr. Moolenaar, Mr. Stanton, Mr. Bergman, Ms. Meng, Ms. Scholten, Mr. Walberg, Mr. Huizenga, Mr. Barrett, and Ms. Bynum) submitted the following resolution; which was referred to the Committee on Education and Workforce _______________________________________________________________________ RESOLUTION Congratulating the University of Michigan Wolverines men's basketball team on winning the 2026 National Collegiate Athletic Association Division I Men's Basketball Championship. Whereas, on April 6, 2026, the University of Michigan Wolverines defeated the University of Connecticut Huskies 69-63, to win the National Collegiate Athletic Association Division I Men's Basketball Championship at Lucas Oil Stadium in Indianapolis, Indiana; Whereas the Wolverines earned the 1-seed in the Midwest Region of the 2026 National Collegiate Athletic Association Division I Men's Basketball Tournament, known as March Madness, finishing the season with a program- record 37 wins; Whereas the Wolverines began their championship run with a 101-80 victory over Howard University in the first round; Whereas the Wolverines advanced to the Sweet Sixteen with a 95-72 victory over Saint Louis University, marking the ninth Sweet Sixteen appearance in the last 13 tournaments; Whereas, in the Sweet Sixteen, the Wolverines defeated the University of Alabama, 90-77, setting a new program record for single-season wins; Whereas the Wolverines delivered a dominant 95-62 victory over the University of Tennessee in the Elite Eight, securing its first Final Four appearance since 2018; Whereas the Wolverines advanced to the national championship game by defeating the University of Arizona, 91-73; Whereas the 2026 National Collegiate Athletic Association Division I Men's Basketball Championship victory represents the University of Michigan's second men's basketball national championship in program history; Whereas the Wolverines previously won a National Championship in 1989; Whereas the success of the 2025-2026 University of Michigan Wolverines men's basketball team was made possible by the contributions of its student- athletes, including Ricky Liburd, Trey McKenney, L.J.
