                    IN THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES

                            October 5, 2026

Mrs. Kim submitted the following resolution; which was referred to the
                    Committee on Energy and Commerce

                               RESOLUTION

  Expressing support for the recognition of October 5th as ``National
                 Peroxisomal Disorder Awareness Day''.

Whereas National Peroxisomal Disorder Awareness Day will help to foster
        understanding of the impact that peroxisomal disorders, including
        peroxisome biogenesis disorder-Zellweger spectrum disorder and the
        related single enzyme deficiencies, like D-bifunctional protein
        deficiency, have on patients and their families;
Whereas peroxisomal disorders are progressive genetic disorders that affect
        peroxisome function and can impact multiple organ systems, often
        resulting in neurological, liver, kidney, vision, hearing,
        gastrointestinal, endocrine, and other serious health complications;
Whereas there are very few treatments and still no cure for peroxisomal
        disorders;
Whereas all patients with peroxisomal disorders suffer from a variety of health
        issues, causing a strain on resources and on the delivery of healthcare
        in the United States;
Whereas peroxisomal disorders can have a devastating impact on the health and
        finances of people of all ages, and equally affect people of all races,
        genders, nationalities, geographic locations, and income levels;
Whereas peroxisomal disorders instill in patients and their caregivers a fear of
        an unknown future with a life-threatening genetic disease and
        apprehension over possible discrimination, including the risk of losing
        their health and life insurance, their jobs, and their chances for
        promotion;
Whereas countless friends, loved ones, spouses, and caregivers of patients with
        peroxisomal disorders must shoulder, the physical, emotional, and
        financial burdens;
Whereas people who have chronic, life-threatening diseases like peroxisomal
        disorders and their caregivers have a predisposition to depression
        because of their anxiety over pain, suffering, and premature death; and
Whereas spreading awareness on October 5th is crucial to reducing barriers to
        health care access, including complicated and burdensome systems,
        limited supply of health care providers with an understanding of
        peroxisomal disorders, an arduous process for diagnosis, and limited
        resources to invest in new therapies and treatments: Now, therefore, be
        it
    Resolved, That the House of Representatives--
            (1) expresses support for the recognition of ``National
        Peroxisomal Disorder Awareness Day''; and
            (2) expresses concern for the severe strain on American
        families impacted by peroxisome disorders.
