R. 7925 To amend the Personal Responsibility and Work Opportunity Reconciliation Act of 1996 to limit the eligibility of aliens to receive benefits under the temporary assistance for needy families program, and for other purposes. _______________________________________________________________________ IN THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES March 12, 2026 Mr. Steube (for himself and Mr. Burchett) introduced the following bill; which was referred to the Committee on Ways and Means _______________________________________________________________________ A BILL To amend the Personal Responsibility and Work Opportunity Reconciliation Act of 1996 to limit the eligibility of aliens to receive benefits under the temporary assistance for needy families program, and for other purposes. Be it enacted by the Senate and House of Representatives of the United States of America in Congress assembled, SECTION 1. SHORT TITLE. This Act may be cited as the ``American Families First Assistance Act''. SEC. 2. ALIEN ELIGIBILITY FOR TEMPORARY ASSISTANCE FOR NEEDY FAMILIES. Section 402 of the Personal Responsibility and Work Opportunity Reconciliation Act of 1996 (8 U.S.C. 1612) is amended-- (1) in subsection (b)(3), by repealing subparagraph (A); and (2) by adding at the end the following: ``(c) Limited Eligibility for Temporary Assistance for Needy Families.-- ``(1) In general.--Notwithstanding any other provision of law and except as provided in paragraph (2), an alien who is a qualified alien (as defined in section 431) is not eligible for the program of block grants to States for temporary assistance for needy families under part A of title IV of the Social Security Act. ``(2) Exception.--Paragraph (1) shall not apply to an alien who is described in paragraph (1), (7) (with respect to a national of Cuba), or (8) of section 431(b).''. <all>
