Plain-English Summary

This resolution would officially recognize the week of April 20-24, 2026, as "National Home Visiting Week" to raise awareness about programs where trained professionals visit families in their homes to provide support, education, and resources. Home visiting programs typically help new parents, low-income families, and families with young children by offering guidance on child development, parenting skills, and connections to community services. The designation aims to highlight the importance of these programs and encourage public recognition of the work they do to support families and improve child outcomes.

[Congressional Bills 119th Congress] [From the U.S. Government Publishing Office] [H. Res. 1171 Introduced in House (IH)] <DOC> 119th CONGRESS 2d Session H. RES. 1171 Supporting the designation of the week of April 20 through April 24, 2026, as ``National Home Visiting Week''. _______________________________________________________________________ IN THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES April 14, 2026 Mr. LaHood (for himself, Mr. Davis of Illinois, Mr. Yakym, and Ms. Chu) submitted the following resolution; which was referred to the Committee on Oversight and Government Reform _______________________________________________________________________ RESOLUTION Supporting the designation of the week of April 20 through April 24, 2026, as ``National Home Visiting Week''. Whereas every child deserves the opportunity to live up to his or her potential; Whereas the early childhood years are the most active period for the developing brain and a stable, secure relationship with a nurturing, caring adult is a key factor in the development of young children; Whereas home visiting programs help parents meet the unique needs of their children, promote healthy development, strengthen family relationships, and reduce the risk of abuse and neglect; Whereas the Federal Mother and Infant Home Visiting Program Evaluation studies demonstrate both short- and long-term positive outcomes for children and families who participate in the Maternal, Infant, and Early Childhood Home Visiting Program; Whereas the 2022 bipartisan reauthorization of the Maternal, Infant, and Early Childhood Home Visiting Program increased investment in home visiting to serve more children and families, including dedicated funding for workforce support and the Jackie Walorski Center for Evidence-Based Case Management; Whereas Tribal Maternal, Infant, and Early Childhood Home Visiting grants support health and well-being of children and families within American Indian and Alaska Native communities; Whereas, in 2024, evidence-based home visiting was implemented in all 50 States, the District of Columbia, 5 territories, 32 Indigenous communities, and 65 percent of United States counties; Whereas, in fiscal year 2024, the Federal Maternal, Infant, and Early Childhood Home Visiting Program served over 150,000 parents and children and provided over 990,000 home visits; Whereas more than 284,000 families received evidence-based home visiting services in 2024, over the course of more than 3,000,000 home visits; Whereas more than 20,000 home visitors and supervisors delivered evidence-based services nationwide in 2024; and Whereas home visitors provide practical, emotional, and educational support that helps families thrive, promotes positive parenting practices, and ensures children have a strong foundation for a healthy, successful life: Now, therefore, be it Resolved, That the House of Representatives supports-- (1) the designation of ``National Home Visiting Week''; and (2) the goals and ideals of ``National Home Visiting Week''. <all>
