Federal employees at the Department of Homeland Security who worked without pay during a government shutdown would receive a bonus equal to 10 percent of the wages they missed during that period. This would compensate workers for continuing to perform their jobs—like border patrol, airport security, and other essential functions—without receiving paychecks while the agency was shut down. The bill is currently under review by the Senate committee responsible for homeland security matters.
