Rep. Gonzales is accused of engaging in sexual misconduct towards an individual employed in his congressional office; and/or discriminating unfairly by dispensing special favors or privileges. Gonzales is alleged to have sent inappropriate texts (the texts were published by the San Antonio Express News which requires sign in to view) to a staffer. He is alleged to have later had an affair with that staffer and she appeared to have also recieved extra financial compensation in the same year. The staffer subsequently died by suicide. In March 2026, the House Committee on Ethics opened an investigation. On March 5, 2026, Rep. Gonzales announced he was ending his re-election campaign, but intended to stay in office for the rest of this term.
