What Happened

Rep. Garciá chose to time his retirement announcement until after his preferred successor had submitted her own petition to get on the primary ballot and near the deadline for submitting petitions to be on the ballot. The end result is that his preferred successor is now the only person in 2026 Democratic primary for his seat. Another Democratic representative, Rep. Gluesenkamp Perez (D-WA3) filed a resolution of disapproval which passed 236-183.
