violating campaign finance laws; failing to properly disclose required information on statements required to be filed with the House; accepting voluntary services for official work from an individual not employed in her congressional office; engaging in improper conduct in connection with community project funding requests; misusing official funds for campaign purposes; and/or violating campaign finance laws and regulations in connection with her 2024 re-election campaign.

Rep. Cherfilus-McCormick was indicted by the Department of Justice in 2025 for violating campaign finance laws by using overpayments to her business from COVID-era progams for her 2022 congressional campaign. She has been under investigation since 2023 by the Office of Congressional Ethics and the House Committee on Ethics for that as well as allegations of failing to properly disclose required information on statements required to be filed with the House and accepting voluntary services for official work from an individual not employed in her congressional office. In 2024, the Ethics Committee expanded the investigation to include new allegations in a 2024 Office of Congressional Ethics report that Cherfilus-McCormick was engaging in improper conduct in connection with community project funding requests; misusing official funds for campaign purposes; and/or violating campaign finance laws and regulations in connection with her 2024 re-election campaign. In November 2025, Cherfilus-McCormick was indicted. In January 2026, the House Committee on Ethics announced the creation of an Adjudicatory Committee to assess the Investigative Subcommittee's formal Statement of Alleged Violations, made public the 2024 report of the Office of Congressional Conduct (previously Office of Congressional Ethics) and published Rep. Cherfilus-McCormick's response. On April 21, 2026, right before an Ethics Committee hearing scheduled to decide the exact punishment she would face for ethics violations, Cherfilus-McCormick resigned from Congress. The hearing convened, her resignation letter was read, the chair declared it no longer had jurisdiction since the resignation was immediate and the hearing ended.
