In the spirit of America's 250th birthday, I'm collecting responses from Nebraskans on what they love about our great nation. Let me know what you're celebrating about America here . Great news: My bill to award a Congressional Gold Medal to the North Platte Canteen passes the Senate The Congressional Gold Medal is the highest honor Congress can bestow upon civilians of this country, and everyone from the North Platte Canteen deserves it. The North Platte Canteen was a beacon of hope for soldiers during such a troubling and uncertain time. Over 55,000 people sustained this effort for over four years, and every soldier that passed through saw the very best of what Nebraska has to offer. I thank my colleagues for understanding the significance of the North Platte Canteen, and for working with me to give them the recognition they deserve. In the news : North Platte Telegraph: Senate unanimously backs Gold Medal for Canteen; House next KNOP: U.S. Senate passes bill to award Congressional Gold Medal to North Platte Canteen volunteers Proud to advocate for the new Plattsmouth wastewater treatment facility I was proud to advocate for the Plattsmouth community and help secure nearly $53 million in federal funding to build a new wastewater treatment facility. It's hard to believe it was 7 years ago when catastrophic flooding devastated communities across Nebraska and damaged critical infrastructure in Plattsmouth. With this new modern facility, Plattsmouth is fully equipped to treat wastewater for the entire community. It will also stabilize water rates and better protect the city against the impacts of future flooding. In the news : WOWT: New Plattsmouth wastewater treatment plant opens after 2019 flood damage Celebrating the reconstruction of Lincoln Airport's Runway 18/36 After years of advocacy - including advancing policy in Congress, securing National Guard Bureau funding, and meeting with the FAA - I was proud to celebrate the reconstruction of Lincoln Airport's Runway 18/36. This is no ordinary runway; its length makes it uniquely suited for specialized military missions carried out by the Nebraska National Guard. This investment strengthens commercial aviation, supports our military, and sends a clear signal about Nebraska's future. I look forward to seeing Runway 18/36 fully rebuilt and ready to serve Nebraska and our nation for decades to come. In the news : KLKN: $100 million Lincoln runway project paves the way for expanded commercial, military aircraft traffic Highlighting Nebraska's communication technologies with FCC Commissioner I hosted FCC Commissioner Olivia Trusty in Nebraska to hear from both the Nebraska Emergency Management Agency about their wildfire response and from local leaders at a roundtable on rural broadband. She also visited Boys Town and witnessed the incredible work they are doing for our state. After a wonderful visit, I am confident the commissioner is taking what she learned back to D.C. as we work together to ensure our communities remain both safe and connected. At a critical moment for national security, this bill blocked Democrats' efforts to defund border security and locked in the record-low border crossings achieved under the Trump administration. I'm proud to advance this legislation, which will protect public safety and strengthen law enforcement. After passage of the bill, I joined FOX Business to discuss our efforts. Click below to watch. We have a solution that will bring down fuel prices for Americans: E15 fuel, 15% ethanol, 85% gasoline. Legislation allowing year-round, nationwide sales of E15 has bipartisan support in the House and Senate. Opponents, the most vocal of which are a handful of oil refineries, are trying to stop it.
