RECOGNIZING THE 100TH ANNIVERSARY OF THE FLUVANNA FIRE DEPARTMENT Congressional Record, Volume 172 Issue 87 (Thursday, May 21, 2026) [Congressional Record Volume 172, Number 87 (Thursday, May 21, 2026)] [Extensions of Remarks] [Page E484] From the Congressional Record Online through the Government Publishing Office [ www.gpo.gov ] RECOGNIZING THE 100TH ANNIVERSARY OF THE FLUVANNA FIRE DEPARTMENT ______ HON. NICHOLAS A. LANGWORTHY of new york in the house of representatives Thursday, May 21, 2026 Mr. LANGWORTHY. Mr. Speaker, I rise today to recognize and honor the Fluvanna Fire Department as it celebrates 100 years of dedicated service to the communities of Fluvanna, Jamestown, and the surrounding region of Chautauqua County, New York. Since its establishment in 1926, the department has stood as a pillar of courage, volunteerism, and community pride. The origins of the Fluvanna Fire Department trace back to 1925, following a devastating fire in the Elmhurst area that revealed the urgent need for organized local fire protection. In response, members of the community came together with determination and a shared sense of duty to formally organize what would become the Fluvanna Fire Department. Through fundraising, volunteer labor, and steadfast commitment, the department purchased its first firefighting apparatus and began a century-long tradition of protecting lives and property. Over the past 100 years, generations of volunteer firefighters, emergency medical personnel, fire police, and support members have answered the call at all hours of the day and night. From structure fires and motor vehicle accidents to medical emergencies and rescue operations, the department has consistently demonstrated professionalism, compassion, and unwavering dedication to public safety. Today, the department continues to provide critical fire and emergency medical services to the Fluvanna community while remaining deeply rooted in the values of volunteer service. As the Fluvanna Fire Department celebrates this historic milestone, we honor not only its proud history, but also the generations of volunteers whose sacrifice and dedication have made this achievement possible. Their service reflects the very best of Western New York and serves as an example of selflessness and civic commitment for future generations. Mr. Speaker, I ask that the United States House of Representatives join me in recognizing the Fluvanna Fire Department on its 100th Anniversary and in thanking its past and present members for a century of honorable and distinguished service to the people of Chautauqua County and New York State. ____________________
