Rep. Barry Moore introduces bill to send new IRS agents to southern border Rep. Barry Moore introduces bill to send new IRS agents to southern border Madison.Green@… Fri, 09/02/2022 - 11:15 Washington, D.C. — Rep. Barry Moore (AL-02) Rep. Moore has introduced the Bureaucrats to the Border Act to require new IRS enforcement personnel hired through the Inflation Reduction Act to complete a 30-day detail supporting Customs and Border Protection (CBP) and Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) at the southern border. “The American people are worried about their families’ future and safety, but the only solutions Democrats have to offer them are bureaucracy and Big Brother," said Moore. "Instead of spending billions to come after taxpayers, Washington should take action to stop the influx of drugs and crime overwhelming our borders.” Reps. Randy Weber (TX-14), Markwayne Mullin (OK-02), Jake Ellzey (TX-06), and Jody Hice (GA-10) are original cosponsors of the legislation. BACKGROUND: Following President Trump’s National Emergency Proclamation in 2019, DHS established the DHS Volunteer Force (DVF) to provide humanitarian and logistical support for those processing through the immigration system. Through the DVF, DHS solicited volunteers and temporarily detailed them to the southern border. Later, DHS defined the scope of the DVF as Federal Government-wide; and thus developed two separate recruitment and application processes, one for DHS employees and one for federal employees at non-DHS agencies.1 When again experiencing record breaking numbers of migrants crossing the southern border illegally, DHS Deputy Secretary Tien requested volunteers for the DHS Volunteer Force in March of 2022.2 In June, there were 207,416 migrant encounters at our southern border – the fourth consecutive month of over 200,000 encounters. That is a 527% increase in apprehensions compared to the final June of Trump's administration. There have now been 16 straight months of over 150,000 illegal border crossings. Further ignoring the crisis at the border, Democrats in the House and Senate pushed through the deceivingly titled Inflation Reduction Act, which authorized the hiring of approximately 87,000 new IRS personnel—making IRS employees outnumber CBP and ICE personnel combined. ### Congress Number 117th Congress September 2, 2022 Press Release September 19, 2022
