TRUMP ADMINISTRATION DOJ SETTLEMENT

Congressional Record, Volume 172 Issue 86 (Wednesday, May 20, 2026) [Congressional Record Volume 172, Number 86 (Wednesday, May 20, 2026)] [House] [Page H3665] From the Congressional Record Online through the Government Publishing Office [ www.gpo.gov ] TRUMP ADMINISTRATION DOJ SETTLEMENT (Ms. BARRAGAN asked and was given permission to address the House for 1 minute and to revise and extend her remarks.) Ms. BARRAGAN. Mr. Speaker, President Trump sued the IRS for $10 billion. Now President Trump is settling the lawsuit with the very Justice Department that he controls. What is in the settlement? There is a provision that says the IRS can never investigate or bring claims against the President or his family for past tax issues. Imagine that, Mr. Speaker, imagine the American people getting the same deal. It would never happen. This is corruption. It is special treatment for the President and his family. On top of that, the President asked for a slush fund of $1.8 billion paid for by you, the taxpayer, for what? It is to pay out his friends and January 6 rioters. What message does this send to the American people? It is that if you are rich and powerful enough, Mr. Speaker, the rules do not apply to you. This is wrong. Trump and Republicans are doing this while cutting healthcare and food assistance for families and raising costs for everyday Americans. It is BS. The American people deserve better. ____________________
