RECOGNIZING INNOVATIONS IN BRAIN CANCER RESEARCH

Congressional Record, Volume 172 Issue 156 (Thursday, October 1, 2026) [Congressional Record Volume 172, Number 156 (Thursday, October 1, 2026)] [Extensions of Remarks] [Page E1011] From the Congressional Record Online through the Government Publishing Office [ www.gpo.gov ] RECOGNIZING INNOVATIONS IN BRAIN CANCER RESEARCH ______ HON. BRIAN K. FITZPATRICK of pennsylvania in the house of representatives Thursday, October 1, 2026 Mr. FITZPATRICK. Mr. Speaker, I rise today to recognize an important advancement for patients and families confronting brain cancer. The United States Food and Drug Administration has approved new technology to help physicians differentiate recurrent or progressive glioma from treatment-related change, in conjunction with other diagnostic evaluations, in adults and pediatric patients one month of age and older. Gliomas are among the most challenging cancers we face, and determining whether a patient's cancer has returned or progressed can be particularly difficult following treatment. This new imaging option can provide physicians with additional information at a critical point in a patient's care. I commend the scientists, clinicians, advocates, and innovators whose work contributed to this achievement, and above all, the patients and families who continue to inspire progress against cancer. As Co-Chair of the Congressional Cancer Caucus and lead sponsor of the BRAIN Act, I remain committed to advancing policies that support medical innovation, strengthen our Nation's cancer research and care infrastructure, and help ensure that patients benefit from advances in cancer detection, imaging, and treatment. Mr. Speaker, I congratulate all those who helped make this important milestone possible and look forward to celebrating future innovations in brain cancer research. ____________________
