Mr. PADILLA submitted an amendment intended to be proposed by him to the bill S. 4784, to authorize appropriations for fiscal year 2027 for military activities of the Department of Defense, for military construction, and for defense activities of the Department of Energy, to prescribe military personnel strengths for such fiscal year, and for other purposes; which was ordered to lie on the table; as follows: At the appropriate place in title III, insert the following: SEC. 3__. IMPROVEMENT OF FIREFIGHTER STAFFING SHORTAGES AT MILITARY INSTALLATIONS. (a) In General.--The Secretary of Defense may offer compensation for firefighters of the Department of Defense at military installations that is competitive with surrounding local jurisdictions in order to improve recruitment and retention of such firefighters. (b) Removal of Limitation on Contracting for Firefighters.--Section 2465 of title 10, United States Code, is amended-- (1) in the section heading, by striking ``firefighting or''; and (2) in subsection (a), by striking ``firefighting or''. ______
