Congressional Record, Volume 172 Issue 72 (Thursday, April 23, 2026) [Congressional Record Volume 172, Number 72 (Thursday, April 23, 2026)] [House] [Pages H3079-H3080] From the Congressional Record Online through the Government Publishing Office [ www.gpo.gov ] LAKE ERIE'S WESTERN BASIN (Ms. KAPTUR asked and was given permission to address the House for 1 minute and to revise and extend her remarks.) Ms. KAPTUR. Mr. Speaker, this Earth Day season, I rise to represent the heart of the Great Lakes, Lake Erie's Western Basin. Our Great Lakes region is home to the largest system of fresh surface water on Earth. This gift we hold in trust for future generations to come. These fresh waters are not only our heritage, they are our economy, our health, and our source of life. Water and energy are closely linked. At a time when energy demand is rising and energy bills are up 13 percent, we must produce clean energy that lowers costs, creates jobs, and protects our air and water. Northwest Ohio understands stewardship. Through efforts like the Great Lakes Restoration Initiative, we have proven that when we steward our environment, especially water and energy, we invest in our people's future. [[Page H3080]] Mr. Speaker, this Earth Day season, let us choose a future that is cleaner, more affordable, and more secure. ____________________
