NORMA J. TORRES of california in the house of representatives Wednesday, February 11, 2026 Mrs. TORRES of California. Mr. Speaker, I rise today to honor Chief Mike Lorenz and to commend him for his 28 years of service to the Ontario Police Department in my congressional district as he retires on February 18, 2026. Chief Lorenz is a graduate of West Covina High School and California Coast University, where he earned his Bachelor of Science in Criminal Justice. As a young adult, he honorably served our Nation in the United States Air Force from July 1993 to June 1997. Late in 1997, Chief Lorenz attended the 130th basic training academy at the San Bernardino Sheriff's Academy. During his time at the academy, he was hired by the City of Ontario, where he became a patrol officer in March of 1998. Over the past 28 years he has served Ontario's Police Department in various capacities: Patrol, Narcotics, Gang Violence Suppression Unit, Field Training Program, Multi-Enforcement Team, and SWAT. For four years, he served Ontario as a task force officer with the California Department of Justice (DOJ) Bureau of Narcotic Enforcement (BNE) Clandestine Laboratory Team, where he targeted labs producing methamphetamine and phencyclidine (PCP). Chief Lorenz's remarkable career is marked by the several supervisory and command positions he has held in Patrol Operations, East Area Command, SWAT/Crisis Negotiations, Community Oriented Problem Solving/ Multi Enforcement Team (COPS/MET), Gang Suppression Unit, K9 and Interdiction, and Captain in Field Operations. Before his time as Chief, he served as the Deputy Chief for two and a half years. After being promoted, Lorenz was sworn in as Chief of the Ontario Police Department in 2020. For his remarkable career and outstanding service, it is my honor to recognize Chief Mike Lorenz ahead of his retirement from the Ontario Police Department. His commitment to our community and Nation is worthy of the highest commendation. ____________________
