HONORING THE SERVICE OF HARVEY LAKE

Congressional Record, Volume 172 Issue 159 (Friday, October 9, 2026) [Congressional Record Volume 172, Number 159 (Friday, October 9, 2026)] [Extensions of Remarks] [Page E1054] From the Congressional Record Online through the Government Publishing Office [ www.gpo.gov ] HONORING THE SERVICE OF HARVEY LAKE ______ HON. TIM WALBERG of michigan in the house of representatives Friday, October 9, 2026 Mr. WALBERG. Mr. Speaker, it is my privilege to recognize Harvey Lake of Jackson as the Veteran of the Month for October and honor him for his service on behalf of a grateful Nation. Harvey was drafted into the United States Army in 1972, answering the call to serve his country during a pivotal time in our nation's history. He completed his basic training at Fort Knox, Kentucky, followed by Advanced Individual Training at Fort Jackson, South Carolina, where he trained as a 63B20 Wheel Vehicle Mechanic. Following his training, Harvey was stationed in Ludwigsburg, Germany, where he served for over 18 months with Company B, 34th Signal Battalion, VII Corps. His unit played an important role in relaying communications to the VII Corps at Kelly Barracks in Stuttgart, Germany, and contributing to the United States' efforts during the Cold War. Harvey completed his service in June 1974 and was later honorably discharged from the Army in June 1978 at the rank of Specialist 4. For his service, Harvey earned the National Defense Medal, Marksman recognition, and a Wheel Vehicle Mechanic Certificate. His commitment to our nation is also part of a proud family tradition of military service. His father served during World War II as a B-24 gunner in the Pacific, while his brother Roger also answered the call to serve in the United States Army and was honorably discharged. Since his time in the military, Harvey has continued to exemplify service, hard work, and devotion to his community. Though retired, he remains active in his community, reflecting the same character and determination that defined his military career. Harvey Lake's faithful service and continued commitment to both our nation's armed services and Michigan's local communities should serve as an inspiration to us all. May others know of my high regard for Harvey, as well as my deep gratitude for his lasting contributions to the country we love. ____________________
