Congress Passes Federal Funding Extension to Avoid Government Shutdown

WASHINGTON, DC -- U.S. Rep. Harold "Hal" Rogers (KY-05) voted for the Senate Amendment to the Continuing Appropriations Act of 2026, H.R. 6500, to extend current federal funding through December 11, 2026. The bipartisan stopgap funding bill avoids a government shutdown ahead of the end of the fiscal year on September 30, 2026. "We voted to keep the government open and running for the American people, removing any fear of losing federal pay, benefits or services from a government shutdown," said Congressman Rogers, Chairman Emeritus of the House Appropriations Committee . "Our work on the House Appropriations Committee has been thorough and efficient, reporting all 12 federal funding bills for fiscal year 2027 out of committee for consideration by the House, where three have already been approved. This extension provides additional time for the House and Senate to finalize all 12 federal funding bills with thoughtful investments of taxpayer dollars." The clean, bipartisan bill passed by a vote of 370 to 48 and now moves on to President Trump's desk for signature.
