Congressman Jake Ellzey Votes in Favor of the Farm, Food, and National Security Act of 2026 to Strengthen American Agriculture and Rural Communities

WASHINGTON, D.C. - Congressman Jake Ellzey supported the Farm, Food, and National Security Act of 2026, legislation designed to strengthen America's agricultural economy, support family farmers and ranchers, improve food affordability, and reinforce national security. "Farmers and ranchers across Texas are facing some of the toughest conditions since the farm crisis of the 1980s," said Rep. Ellzey . "They need certainty, access to credit, and stronger risk management tools right now. This bill delivers exactly that while protecting taxpayers and strengthening rural America." The legislation expands access to credit and risk management tools for producers, modernizes rural development and energy programs, strengthens conservation efforts on working lands, and prioritizes responsible management of federal forests. It also provides regulatory certainty for producers who rely on critical crop protection tools and protects interstate commerce for livestock operations. The bill makes historic investments in specialty crops, supporting increased domestic production of fruits and vegetables while expanding access to meat processing infrastructure and cutting-edge agricultural research. It also strengthens export promotion programs to help reduce the agricultural trade deficit and ensures proper oversight of humanitarian food aid by returning administration of the Food for Peace program to the U.S. Department of Agriculture. "Food affordability begins on the farm," Ellzey said . "If we want to lower costs at the grocery store, we have to start by making sure family farms can stay in business and continue feeding our communities." The Farm, Food, and National Security Act of 2026 maintains responsible spending by remaining budget neutral and reinforcing integrity and transparency within nutrition programs while prioritizing health outcomes for families. "Food security is national security," Ellzey added . "A nation that cannot feed itself cannot defend itself. This bill strengthens our agricultural base, supports rural communities, and keeps America in a position of global leadership."
