RECOGNIZING DISCIPLES COFFEE

Congressional Record, Volume 172 Issue 153 (Monday, September 28, 2026) [Congressional Record Volume 172, Number 153 (Monday, September 28, 2026)] [Senate] [Page S5070] From the Congressional Record Online through the Government Publishing Office [ www.gpo.gov ] RECOGNIZING DISCIPLES COFFEE Mr. RISCH. Mr. President, as a member and former chairman of the Senate Committee on Small Business and Entrepreneurship, each month I recognize and celebrate the American entrepreneurial spirit by highlighting the success of a small business in my home State of Idaho. Today, I am proud to honor Disciples Coffee in Boise as the Idaho Small Business of the Month for September 2026. Chris and Joey Melrose started Disciples Coffee in October 2023 after inviting Daryl Gurden, then known for his work smoking meats, to try his hand at roasting coffee beans. The skillset turned out to be surprisingly transferable, and Daryl quickly became the company's new head roaster, bringing exceptional and fresh coffee to Boise. Earlier this year, Timothy Taylor assumed ownership of the day-to-day operations of Disciples Coffee, allowing Joey more time to focus on building and consulting with other businesses in the Treasure Valley. Despite the transition, Disciples Coffee's goal remains the same: to create specialty coffee and foster genuine connections over a cup of joe. The company's name is derived from the Great Commission, the call for followers of Jesus to go forth and make disciples of men. Each owner found meaning in Matthew 28:19 and saw coffee as a natural way to bring people together for meaningful conversation and to grow their faith. With each batch of coffee they roast, Disciples Coffee strives to roast to perfection and brew for connection. Disciples Coffee aims to serve more than just coffee to the Treasure Valley. Through its Mission of the Month Program, the business works with local organizations like Mighty Oaks, PAL, Idaho Diaper Bank, Foster + Heart, and the Whosoevers, to bring attention to those who serve the community, as well as donate tips collected throughout the month. Congratulations to the Disciples Coffee team on being recognized as the Idaho Small Business of the Month for September 2026. Your dedication to excellence makes Idaho proud, and I look forward to your continued growth and success. ____________________
