Klobuchar, Smith Oppose Hunt’s Silver Lake Postal Station Closure

WASHINGTON - U.S. Senators Amy Klobuchar (D-MN) and Tina Smith (D-MN) are calling on the United States Postal Service (USPS) Postmaster General David Steiner to reconsider the decision to close the Hunt's Silver Lake Postal Station in Rochester. Hunt's Silver Lake Postal Station is set to close June 25, 2026. "We write to express opposition to the United States Postal Service's decision to terminate its contract for the post office located at 1510 North Broadway Avenue in Rochester, Minnesota, with service discontinuing on June 25, 2026," wrote Klobuchar. "Whether it is a small business owner sending time-sensitive documents, an entrepreneur delivering products to a new customer, or simply a person staying connected with family and friends, Minnesotans rely on their local post office every day. That is why it is important that these services remain available at the Hunt's Silver Lake Postal Station." The full letter is available here and below. Dear Mr. Steiner: We write to express opposition to the United States Postal Service's decision to terminate its contract for the post office located at 1510 North Broadway Avenue in Rochester, Minnesota, with service discontinuing on June 25, 2026. Whether it is a small business owner sending time-sensitive documents, an entrepreneur delivering products to a new customer, or simply a person staying connected with family and friends, Minnesotans rely on their local post office every day. That is why it is important that these services remain available at the Hunt's Silver Lake Postal Station. Our constituents have shared their concerns about terminating the contract for this location. Closing the Hunt's Silver Lake Postal Station removes a convenient and accessible postal option that has served the Rochester area for more than 65 years. This location also relieves pressure on the nearby Rochester Main Post Office, allowing for shorter lines and quicker service. Removing this location will only make it more difficult for customers to get assistance. We urge you to fully consider these concerns and those raised by local officials, businesses, and residents. In addition, we ask that you reconsider the decision to terminate this contract and instead ensure that this remains a valuable resource for its customers and community. Thank you for your attention to this matter. ###
