Lawler Votes in Favor of Farm Bill to Support SNAP, Conservation, and New York Farmers

Washington, D.C. – 4/30/26… Congressman Mike Lawler (NY-17) voted in favor of H.R. 7567, the Farm, Food, and National Security Act of 2026 , known as the Farm Bill. This legislation passed the House with a bipartisan vote of 224-200 and now heads to the Senate. This legislation reauthorizes and improves programs administered by the U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) through 2031. Specifically, the bill reauthorizes SNAP and related nutrition programs, enhances land conservation programs for U.S. agricultural lands and forests, and advances agricultural research and innovation. It also includes provisions to strengthen broadband access, the farm safety net, and specialty crop research programs. “I was proud to vote for a Farm Bill that keeps food on the table for New Yorkers. This legislation delivers real support for our state’s specialty crop industry, including the fruits and vegetables grown right here in the Hudson Valley. In a region where orchards, nurseries, and small family farms rely on those crops for their livelihoods, this being one of the most pro-specialty crop Farm Bills in history is especially meaningful for our district,” said Congressman Lawler, a member of the Specialty Crops Caucus. “The Farm Bill strengthens our agri-food supply chain while investing critical USDA resources in environmental protection. I was glad to work with Chairman Thompson to ensure New Yorkers will see the benefits of this bill in their daily lives,” concluded Congressman Lawler. This year’s Farm Bill includes language from five of Rep. Lawler’s bills. H.R. 4296 , CROP for Farming Act, which ensures USDA Environmental Quality Incentives Program (EQIP) funds prioritize farming efforts that reduce greenhouse gas emissions and promote carbon storage. H.R. 3979 , LEAPS Act, which provides information and education tools to farmers on the cost savings, energy savings, water conservation, and carbon emissions reductions that can be realized through the use of energy-efficient pumping systems. H.R. 2883 , NO TIME TO Waste Act, which authorizes the Secretary of Agriculture to carry out activities to reduce food loss and waste H.R. 7585 , Enhanced Cybersecurity for SNAP Act, which requires the USDA to update cybersecurity measures that secure SNAP benefit cards. H.R. 2812 , Youth Lead Act, which authorizes grants to the Scouts, 4-H, and the Future Farmers of America to establish pilot projects to expand the programs carried out by the organizations in rural areas and small towns. Congressman Lawler is one of the most bipartisan members of Congress and represents New York's 17th Congressional District, which is just north of New York City and contains all or parts of Rockland, Putnam, Dutchess, and Westchester Counties. He was rated the most effective freshman lawmaker in the 118th Congress, 8th overall, surpassing dozens of committee chairs. ###
