HONORING DERRICK MARTELL ROSE

Congressional Record, Volume 172 Issue 15 (Thursday, January 22, 2026) [Congressional Record Volume 172, Number 15 (Thursday, January 22, 2026)] [House] [Page H1338] From the Congressional Record Online through the Government Publishing Office [ www.gpo.gov ] HONORING DERRICK MARTELL ROSE (Mr. JACKSON of Illinois asked and was given permission to address the House for 1 minute and to revise and extend his remarks.) Mr. JACKSON of Illinois. Mr. Speaker, I rise today with gratitude, with pride, and with purpose to honor a son of Chicago, Mr. Derrick Martell Rose. From the hard concrete of Englewood to the shining floor of the United Center, his journey has been a testimony that greatness can rise from any ZIP Code when faith meets discipline and talent meets sacrifice. When Derrick Rose became the youngest Most Valuable Player in NBA history, he did not just break a record; he broke a ceiling. He showed our children that brilliance can be humble, that power can be quiet, and that excellence does not require abandonment of one's roots. When injury knocked him down, Derrick Rose got back up, not bitter, not broken, but better, still believing, still becoming. Today as his jersey is lifted to the rafters, we lift a lesson. We can stumble and still stand. We can fall and still fly. Derrick Rose is not just an MVP of basketball. Mr. Rose is an MVP of resilience, of hope, of our sweet home, Chicago. ____________________
