IN MEMORY OF CONGRESSMAN DOUG LaMALFA Congressional Record, Volume 172 Issue 4 (Wednesday, January 7, 2026) [Congressional Record Volume 172, Number 4 (Wednesday, January 7, 2026)] [House] [Pages H121-H122] From the Congressional Record Online through the Government Publishing Office [ www.gpo.gov ] IN MEMORY OF CONGRESSMAN DOUG LaMALFA (Mr. CALVERT asked and was given permission to address the House for 1 minute.) Mr. CALVERT. Mr. Speaker, yesterday we learned of the sudden passing of our dear friend and colleague, Doug LaMalfa. As a fourth-generation rice farmer, Doug's experience shaped his advocacy for his northern California constituents. He first served them in the California Legislature. Then he was elected to the House of Representatives in 2012. In the House, Doug distinguished himself as a leader on matters involving water, farming, forest management, and rural issues. In recognition of that leadership, he was unanimously elected to serve as chairman of the Western Caucus last year. We offer our thoughts, prayers, and support to Doug's wife, Jill, and their entire family. Doug was a good and decent man, an authentic public servant. With Doug, what you saw is what you got. As the tributes poured in, over and over people remembered his warmth, his wisdom, his sense of humor, kindness, and above all his authenticity. He [[Page H122]] will be deeply missed and fondly remembered. Mr. Speaker, I yield to the gentlewoman from California (Ms. Lofgren), my good friend and the chair of the Democrat delegation. Ms. LOFGREN. Mr. Speaker, we are heartbroken at the news that we have lost Doug LaMalfa. We served with him so proudly and got to know him as a friend, someone who you could disagree with without being disagreeable. We loved him dearly, and I value personally the chance I had to work with Doug and many others on the Farm Workforce Modernization Act. The insight that he had on that as a long-term rice farmer was just incalculable. I value the moment that he came and brought me a little bag of rice that he had grown himself. We are in shock, and I would just like to add that our condolences go to the family as has been expressed so well. All of us are heartbroken at this terrible news. The SPEAKER. The Chair now asks all those present in the Chamber, as well as Members and staff throughout the Capitol, to please rise for a moment of silence in remembrance of the late Honorable Doug LaMalfa of California. ____________________
