WASHINGTON, D.C. – Following a weekend of dangerously poor air quality across the Washington region, Congressman James R. Walkinshaw (VA-11), joined by Representatives Brian Fitzpatrick (PA-01), Paul Tonko (NY-20), Don Beyer (VA-08), and Eleanor Holmes Norton (DC) introduced the bipartisan Federal Facilities Indoor Air Quality Assessment Act to identify and address air quality and ventilation problems across federal buildings. Recently, wildfire smoke pushed the region into Code Purple conditions, meaning the air was considered very unhealthy for everyone. “Last week’s dangerous air quality was a stark reminder that clean indoor air is essential to protecting public health,” said Congressman Walkinshaw . “Federal employees should never have to risk their health by showing up to work, yet General Services Administration’s own watchdog has identified persistent ventilation problems in federal buildings.
