Turner Expresses Support for the Sanctioning Russia Act of 2025

WASHINGTON D.C. - Today, Congressman Mike Turner (OH-10) released the following statement in support of Ukraine's recent successful strikes against Russia and called for the passage of the Sanctioning Russia Act of 2025 (S. 1241 and H.R. 2548). "The United States has always stood with those who fight for their freedom. From the beginning of Russia's invasion, Ukraine's bravery and resolve has served as inspiration for many across the world. This inspiration is not enough to stop Russia's constant aggression or force Russia meaningfully to the negotiating table. "Now, more than ever, the U.S. needs to express strong support for Ukraine in their defense against Russian aggression. We must provide economic pressure that matches Ukraine's courage on the battlefield. "For these reasons, I support the Sanctioning Russia Act of 2025. This bill would impose secondary sanctions on any individual or entity who is affiliated with the Russian Federation and nations that purchase Russian oil, uranium and petroleum products. This includes a 500 percent tariff on all indirect imports to the United States from the Russian Federation. This bill would drastically affect Russia's ability to resupply their military with weapons and munitions. I strongly encourage all U.S. allies to adopt similar measures." Background: The Sanctioning Russia Act of 2025 (S. 1241 and H.R. 2548) imposes strict sanctions on Russia if Russia does not engage in good faith negotiations with Ukraine. This bill makes it the policy of the United States to provide sustainable levels of security assistance to Ukraine to prevent another future invasion by the Russian Federation. This bill would also impose 500 percent tariffs on countries that purchase Russian-origin oil, uranium and petroleum products. Background on the Sanctioning Russia Act of 2025 is available HERE .
