Griffith Announces HHS Grants Worth More Than $2.86 Million to Area Health Centers

The U.S. Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) has awarded three additional grants to support health centers in Virginia’s Ninth District. The funding breakdown includes: $1,095,625 to Free Clinic of the New River Valley, Inc. (based in Christiansburg, Virginia) $900,172 to Bland County Medical Clinic Inc. (based in Bastian, Virginia) $873,541 to Martinsville Henry County Coalition for Health and Wellness (based in Martinsville, Virginia) In response to these grant notices, U.S. Congressman Morgan Griffith (R-VA) issued the following statement: “Community health centers play necessary roles in rural health care. Earlier this year, I was proud to vote for a government funding measure that protects the work of these institutions. “These HHS grants for more than $2.8 million help serve rural health care needs.” BACKGROUND The awarding office of these grants is the Health Resources and Services Administration (HRSA). As a member of the House Committee on Energy and Commerce, Congressman Griffith serves as the Chairman of the Health Subcommittee which has policy jurisdiction over HRSA. Congressman Griffith’s discussion on health care policies in the government funding measure can be found here . ###
