WELCOMING THE GUEST CHAPLAIN Congressional Record, Volume 172 Issue 95 (Thursday, June 4, 2026) [Congressional Record Volume 172, Number 95 (Thursday, June 4, 2026)] [Senate] [Page S2573] From the Congressional Record Online through the Government Publishing Office [ www.gpo.gov ] WELCOMING THE GUEST CHAPLAIN Mr. McCORMICK. Mr. President, I rise today to thank guest Chaplain Dr. Gurwant Kaur for delivering the Sikh prayer to celebrate the 250th anniversary of our Nation's independence and commitment of Sikh Americans to protect our Nation's freedom. In addition to being a practicing physician, Dr. Kaur also serves as an additional granthi (priest) at the Blue Mountain Gurdwara near Allentown, PA. Sikhism is the world's fifth-largest religion with nearly 30 million followers worldwide, including hundreds of thousands in the United States. It was founded by Guru Nanak born in West Punjab (Pakistan) in 1469. Sikh soldiers fought in both World Wars along with Allied forces to protect the free world. Sikhs began migrating to the United States over 150 years ago and have since established large Sikh communities in several U.S. States, including the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania. Historically, Sikhs have showcased a commitment to serving individuals from all religious, cultural, and ethnic backgrounds, demonstrating their generosity and deep sense of community and are very proud and patriotic Americans. ____________________
