Congresswoman Ross Statement on Trump’s Voter Suppression Executive Order

Raleigh, N.C. - Today, Congresswoman Deborah Ross (NC-02) released the following statement on President Trump's executive order: "Rather than win elections fair and square, Donald Trump and Congressional Republicans are once again trying to tilt the playing field in their favor. First, they tried to pass the so-called 'SAVE America Act,' which will make it harder for millions of women to vote. Now, Trump is trying to restrict mail-in voting through executive order. "Let's be clear - this executive order is a blatantly unconstitutional power grab explicitly designed to undermine access to the ballot. Millions of Americans rely on mail-in voting to make their voices heard - including service members stationed overseas, seniors, people with disabilities, and students voting for the first time. "The Constitution is clear: the authority to set election laws rests with Congress and the states, not the President. Trump's attempts to restrict voting rights via executive order have been struck down by the courts, and this latest order will be no different. We will challenge this vigorously for the future of American democracy and for the generations of voters who fought and died for our rights."
