RECOGNIZING 82ND ANNIVERSARY OF ALLIED D-DAY INVASION OF FRANCE

Congressional Record, Volume 172 Issue 96 (Monday, June 8, 2026) [Congressional Record Volume 172, Number 96 (Monday, June 8, 2026)] [House] [Pages H3976-H3977] From the Congressional Record Online through the Government Publishing Office [ www.gpo.gov ] RECOGNIZING 82ND ANNIVERSARY OF ALLIED D-DAY INVASION OF FRANCE (Mr. THOMPSON of Pennsylvania asked and was given permission to address the House for 1 minute and to revise and extend his remarks.) Mr. THOMPSON of Pennsylvania. Mr. Speaker, I rise today to recognize the 82nd anniversary of the Allied D-day invasion of France. On June 6, 1944, thousands of American soldiers stormed the beaches of Normandy to defend the freedoms and liberties that we hold dear. As General Dwight Eisenhower said: ``The eyes of the world are upon you.'' D-day reflects the courage of the brave men who landed in France and their sense of duty to protect our country. This past Saturday was a solemn reminder of the more than 6,000 U.S. soldiers we lost. Their sacrifice reshaped the course of history. In 2018, I had the honor of attending the wreath-laying ceremony at the Normandy American Cemetery in France. Standing upon those hallowed grounds was a reminder that freedom is never free. Mr. Speaker, let us take this moment to remember and honor those who sacrificed so much for so many. May we honor the selflessness and commitment to country. Their impact has been felt for generations and will always be remembered. God bless our troops and this Nation. [[Page H3977]] ____________________
