Senator Rick Scott Makes Final Stop of Hurricane Preparedness Tour in Ponte Vedra Beach

PONTE VEDRA BEACH, Fla. - Today, U.S. Senator Rick Scott hosted a press conference on hurricane preparedness at Valley Smoke BBQ in Ponte Vedra Beach, Fla. as part of his annual Hurricane Preparedness Tour across Florida ahead of the 2026 hurricane season. Joining Senator Scott at the event were Congressman John Rutherford, St. Johns County Sherriff Rob Hardwick, St. Johns County Fire Rescue Chief Sean McGee, and local public officials to discuss storm preparation and ensuring Florida families are safe this hurricane season. Senator Rick Scott said, "Preparing for a hurricane is a team event. Everyone needs to be alert and ready to evacuate if asked to do so. Ensure you have seven days of food and seven days of water. Get all your medicines and all your documents ready as well. Remember, you can rebuild homes, but you can't rebuild your life. Do everything you can do right now to be prepared, and as your Senator, I will do my part to keep Florida families safe." Florida families can visit www.rickscott.senate.gov/hurricane-preparedness to make a preparedness plan and find helpful resources to keep their families safe. On the federal level, Senator Scott continues to work to help Floridians prepare for and recover from any potential weather events. Last month, Sen. Scott's bipartisan Doug LaMalfa Federal Disaster Tax Relief Certainty Act unanimously passed the House and Sen. Scott is leading the way to get the legislation passed in the Senate. The bill would provide families with critical certainty and long-overdue tax relief after natural disasters, ensuring victims can access relief quickly so they can focus on rebuilding their lives. Last Congress, he was proud to secure passage of his Federal Disaster Tax Relief Act to provide tax relief to communities across Florida affected by disasters, including Hurricanes Helene, Debby, Milton, Ian, Nicole, Fiona, and Idalia, as well as his FISHES Act to support Florida's fisheries recovering from storms by improving the federal regulatory processes for fishery disaster relief and expediting these funds. ###
