REDUCING VOTING DAYS Congressional Record, Volume 172 Issue 146 (Wednesday, September 16, 2026) [Congressional Record Volume 172, Number 146 (Wednesday, September 16, 2026)] [House] [Page H5963] From the Congressional Record Online through the Government Publishing Office [ www.gpo.gov ] REDUCING VOTING DAYS (Ms. DEAN of Pennsylvania asked and was given permission to address the House for 1 minute and to revise and extend her remarks.) Ms. DEAN of Pennsylvania. Mr. Speaker, today, we are sent home after canceling 2 weeks and 1 day of voting, a fitting end to the bleak record of the 119th Congress, which has canceled nearly 25 percent of voting days. Perhaps my Republican colleagues do not feel the need to vote because they have surrendered their constitutional powers--for example, our duty to impose taxes as they support Donald Trump's inane and chaotic tariffs and our power to declare war as they buckle to the President's reckless war with Iran. On immigration, the majority has handed over $120 billion to ICE, enabling masked agents to terrorize our communities and kill immigrants and American citizens. On the cost of living, the majority has done nothing to save American families billions of dollars more, whether it is at the gas pump or with healthcare. They have left many families unable to afford basic necessities, even food. On healthcare specifically, the majority has slashed affordable coverage for care of our seniors and families, care for those fighting this disease of addiction. On AI, they have done nothing. Now, with fewer than 50 days until the midterm election, Mr. Speaker, as this Congress and this Republican majority comes to an end, you will be remembered for a failure to govern and for capitulation to the rot and rubble of this administration. ____________________
