HONORING THE 80TH ANNIVERSARY OF THE NATIONAL SCHOOL LUNCH ACT

Congressional Record, Volume 172 Issue 99 (Thursday, June 11, 2026) [Congressional Record Volume 172, Number 99 (Thursday, June 11, 2026)] [Extensions of Remarks] [Page E571] From the Congressional Record Online through the Government Publishing Office [ www.gpo.gov ] HONORING THE 80TH ANNIVERSARY OF THE NATIONAL SCHOOL LUNCH ACT ______ HON. TIM WALBERG of michigan in the house of representatives Thursday, June 11, 2026 Mr. WALBERG. Mr. Speaker, 80 years ago this month, the National School Lunch Act was signed into law--and for eight decades, this program has delivered on a simple promise: no child should sit in a classroom too hungry to learn. As Chairman of the Education and Workforce Committee, I am proud of what Congress has done to strengthen school nutrition. President Trump signed the Whole Milk for Healthy Kids Act into law--returning whole and 2 percent milk to school cafeterias for the first time in over a decade, supporting Michigan's dairy farmers and giving Michigan's parents and children exactly what they deserve: real nutrition and real choice. Secretary Rollins and this administration also understand that good nutrition is the foundation of student success--in the classroom, in the community, and in life. In Michigan's 5th District and across this great nation, nearly 30 million children are served school meals every school day. This administration is committed to making sure those meals are nutritious, locally sourced, and worthy of the children who receive them. On this 80th anniversary, I am proud to stand with President Trump and Secretary Rollins in ensuring our young people have the building blocks for a healthy future. ____________________
