Today, Congresswoman Lizzie Fletcher (TX-07) filed a discharge petition to force a House floor vote on her bill, the Right to Contraception Act , H.R. 999, to guarantee by law the right to contraception. A discharge petition is a legislative tool in the House of Representatives that allows a majority of members to force a bill to the floor for a vote by the full chamber, even if the Speaker of the House opposes it. “The Right to Contraception Act reflects the position of the vast majority of Americans who rely on contraception of all kinds to plan their families and their lives,” said Congresswoman Lizzie Fletcher . “Contraception is essential healthcare. But what we are seeing from Republicans across the country and the Trump administration are efforts to restricts access to family planning, violating the autonomy and right to privacy of Americans that the Supreme Court recognized in Griswold v.
