Comer Secures Over $5 Million in Funding for the Frankfort Riverbank Stabilization Project

WASHINGTON - Today, Congressman James Comer (R-Ky.) announced that the Department of Homeland Security Appropriations Act, 2026 (H.R. 7147), recently passed by Congress, includes $5.8 million in federal funding for the Frankfort Riverbank Stabilization project. This funding bill now advances to the U.S. Senate for consideration. Congressman Comer led efforts in Congress to secure funding for the Frankfort Riverbank Stabilization project, which will support efforts to stabilize the riverbank and reinforce flood protection infrastructure. "I saw firsthand the devastating toll flooding took on families and neighborhoods in Frankfort, and I met with local leaders to understand what was needed to support recovery. I'm proud to have led efforts in Congress to secure funding for critical riverbank stabilization. My goal is to ensure Frankfort communities are resilient, safe, and prepared for future storms. Stronger flood infrastructure will help protect families, homes, and local businesses. I will continue working closely with local leaders in Frankfort to strengthen critical infrastructure," said Congressman Comer. Background: Founded on the banks of one of the many S-curves along the Kentucky River, Frankfort's location and low-lying floodplains make the city susceptible to flooding. The community is now experiencing more frequent and more intense flooding events, including a Major Disaster Declaration due to flooding from the Kentucky River as recently as April 24, 2025. Over the years, the City of Frankfort has invested in multiple mitigation solutions to stabilize the riverbank, including rip rap, concrete blocks, and retaining walls. Unfortunately, recurring flooding events are weakening these resiliency measures. This federal funding will assist Frankfort in hardening its flood protection infrastructure.
