Mr. Speaker, the relationship between the Sultanate of Oman and America goes back over 200 years. Trade relations between the two countries were established in the early years of American independence on September 21, 1833, with the Treaty of Amity and Commerce. Oman was the first Gulf nation to recognize America, sending an envoy in 1841. Today, Oman is a key American security, economic, and defense partner with a Free Trade Agreement coming into effect on January 1, 2009, leading to trade of over $4 billion in goods and services. The terrorist regime in Iran has launched at least 19 drone attacks on Oman in recent months targeting their ports, as well as an attack on Omani radar systems this month.
