PETE SESSIONS of texas in the house of representatives Tuesday, October 13, 2026 Mr. SESSIONS. Mr. Speaker, I rise today to present Major Miles ``Dusty'' Bullard, U.S. Army, of Pflugerville, Texas, with a Congressional Veteran Commendation. Dusty's career and dedication to his community upon retirement exemplify that love of country and neighbor upon which America was founded. Born in Hammond, Indiana, Dusty joined the United States Army in 1966. Dusty began basic training at Fort Campbell, Kentucky, and then headed to Fort Leonard Wood, Missouri, for heavy equipment and demolition training. He was then assigned to an engineer unit at Fort Lewis, Washington, with 6th Army, and then to Fort Meade, Maryland, with 1st Army. He received orders for Vietnam in April 1968, arriving in June of that year. Dusty was assigned to the 20th Engineer Brigade, 544th CS Company, and 94th Engineer Detachment, where he worked on various construction projects as well as airfield repairs, and was promoted to Sergeant E-5. His last job was as a Night Operations Sergeant, and after a 16-month tour, he returned to Indiana. Dusty served in the U.S. Army Reserve and Army National Guard until 1993. In 1990, Dusty was called to active duty for Desert Shield/Desert Storm and was assigned to Headquarters, 3rd Army, at Fort McPherson, Georgia. They shipped to Saudi Arabia, and he was assigned to Headquarters and Headquarters Company, 22nd Support Command, Theater Army. Dusty's 90-day tour lasted 10 \1/2\ months, during which he worked with Logistics Engineer Operations as a Construction and Operations Staff Engineer Officer. For this work, Dusty was awarded the Bronze Star for meritorious service and was promoted to Major. After his retirement two years later, Dusty's service continued, now as a dutiful citizen. Dusty is a charter member and officer of Kerlin- Lyerly American Legion Post 154 and is also an officer of Lone Star Chapter 4 of the Disabled American Veterans. He is a member of the VFW and is an active and instrumental member of the newly formed Pflugerville Veterans Advisory Taskforce. Dusty has assisted with taking veterans to and from VA clinics in Austin and Cedar Park. As a certified Service Officer with the DAV, he assisted several veterans with claims assistance. Dusty is very active in supporting the two local JROTC programs at Hendrickson and Connally High Schools. Furthermore, he supports the Pflugerville Police Department's Operation Blue Santa, a community program providing toys and gifts to those in need. Dusty lost his beautiful wife of over 40 years, Janice, on August 20th of this year. He has six children: Aaron, Dustin, Chad, Christeen, Yvonne, and Danette, two of whom, Christeen and Yvonne, are veterans themselves. Miles has 10 grandchildren and two great-grandchildren. Dusty is a member of First Baptist Church in Pflugerville. It is with great honor and respect that I present United States Army Major Miles ``Dusty'' Bullard with a Congressional Veteran Commendation from the 17th Congressional District of Texas. His longstanding and devout commitment to the United States of America typifies patriotism and service. ____________________
