Klobuchar Meets with New Canadian Ambassador to the United States Senator Klobuchar and Canadian Ambassador Mark Wiseman WASHINGTON - U.S. Senator Amy Klobuchar (D-MN) met with the new Canadian Ambassador to the United States, Mark Wiseman. "The Ambassador and I had a productive conversation about the key issues facing our countries, including the tariffs that are raising prices throughout Canada and the United States," said Klobuchar. "Canada is not just Minnesota-s neighbor - they are our number one trading partner and close friend, and I look forward to working with the Ambassador to further strengthen our economic and security ties." Last month, Senator Klobuchar met with a delegation of Canadian Members of Parliament who participate in the Canada-U.S. Inter-Parliamentary Group (IPG) and stressed her support for strengthening the United States- relationship with Canada and her opposition to the administration-s tariffs, which harm American businesses, increase costs, and threaten Minnesota jobs. Klobuchar, along with Senators Tim Kaine (D-VA) and Raphael Warnock (D-GA), also introduced the Reclaim Trade Powers Act , legislation to end the President-s latest 10 percent tariffs on most goods by repealing Section 122 of the Trade Act of 1974. In February, legislation to repeal President Trump-s International Emergency Economic Powers Act (IEEPA) tariffs on Canada was passed by the U.S. House of Representatives. In October, similar bipartisan legislation led by Senators Klobuchar, Kaine, Paul and Warner passed the Senate 50-46. ###
