Congressional Record, Volume 172 Issue 146 (Wednesday, September 16, 2026) [Congressional Record Volume 172, Number 146 (Wednesday, September 16, 2026)] [House] [Pages H5963-H5964] From the Congressional Record Online through the Government Publishing Office [ www.gpo.gov ] GIVING OUR FARMERS STABILITY THEY NEED TO FEED AMERICA (Mr. MRVAN asked and was given permission to address the House for 1 minute.) Mr. MRVAN. Mr. Speaker, I rise to share what feedback I received from the northwest Indiana farmers on the Agricultural Advisory Council I met with this week. Our farmers are getting crushed. The conflict in Iran has pushed diesel above [[Page H5964]] $6 a gallon. Tariffs are driving up fertilizer costs and closing agricultural markets. Immigration policies have disrupted the legal workforce farmers depend on, and the rush to build data centers is putting upward pressure on electricity costs. Meanwhile, Congress has failed to pass a farm bill or a fiscal year 2027 Agriculture Appropriations Act, leaving farmers without certainty. Their message to me was simple: Help us. They need tariff relief, lower fuel costs, expanded markets, and action from Congress. They know how to endure tough times, but they told me this is as difficult as it has ever been. These are real costs threatening real workers, families, and farms. Farming is a national security issue. We must listen. We must act, and we must give our farmers the stability they need to keep farming America. ____________________
