Klobuchar Recognizes Annunciation Student Awarded with Citizen Honors Award From Left to right: Victor-s mother Annie Greenawalt, Victor Greenawalt, and Senator Klobuchar. WASHINGTON - U.S. Senator Amy Klobuchar (D-MN) joined 11-year-old Victor Greenawalt from Minneapolis and his family as he was recognized by the Congressional Medal of Honor Society with their Citizen Honors Award as the 2026 Young Hero Honoree. Victor was recognized for demonstrating "extraordinary bravery beyond his years" during the Annunciation Catholic School shooting when he used his body to shield his fellow classmate, Weston Halsne. "When Victor Greenawalt leaped in front of gunfire to protect his friend during the tragic mass shooting at Annunciation Catholic School, he acted selflessly to keep others safe," said Klobuchar. "He was awarded a Citizen Honor Award from the Congressional Medal of Honor Society for his bravery, and I had the opportunity to meet and thank Victor for his courage, which inspired us all." Each year, the Congressional Medal of Honor Society conducts a nationwide search to identify five citizens and one organization to receive the Citizen Honors Awards, a distinction reserved for those who choose courage over comfort and service over self. The Citizen Honors Awardees are personally selected and recognized by our nation's living Medal of Honor Recipients, Americans who themselves went above and beyond the call of duty and who understand, at the deepest level, the true cost of courage. ###
