Congressman Rogers Advances Homeland Security Funding Bill for 2027

WASHINGTON, DC - U.S. Rep. Harold "Hal" Rogers (KY-05) voted to advance the federal funding bill for homeland security, including disaster relief funding and improved processing for FEMA claims. The Fiscal Year 2027 Homeland Security Appropriations Act was approved by the House Appropriations Committee, providing $99.6 billion to enhance public safety and homeland preparedness, bolster border protection, increase grant funding for first responders and combat child exploitation and human trafficking. "I have watched Eastern Kentucky get back on its feet after floods, tornadoes and ice storms. The resilience of our people is extraordinary, but resilience alone is not enough. Federal support, delivered on time and without unnecessary red tape, is what makes recovery possible. This bill moves us in the right direction," said Congressman Rogers, Chairman Emeritus of the House Appropriations Committee . "This bill requires FEMA to report quarterly on every pending major disaster declaration, directing FEMA to produce a plan to reduce processing times and improve transparency in appeals. It also takes steps to address the underlying technology failures that have allowed this backlog to grow." Grants for firefighters and first responders are increased in the bill to improve disaster preparedness, response and recovery efforts in our communities. It specifically enables local fire departments to purchase fire-retardant gear that is produced at American manufacturing facilities, like Lion Apparel in West Liberty, Kentucky. The bill now moves on to the House for consideration.
