HONORING GARRETT EDWARDS
Congressional Record, Volume 172 Issue 146 (Wednesday, September 16, 2026) [Congressional Record Volume 172, Number 146 (Wednesday, September 16, 2026)] [House] [Page H5962] From the Congressional Record Online through the Government Publishing Office [ www.gpo.gov ] {time} 1920 HONORING GARRETT EDWARDS (Mr. MULLIN asked and was given permission to address the House for 1 minute.) Mr. MULLIN. Mr. Speaker, I rise to honor my constituent Garrett Edwards. Like many, Garrett struggled with mental health during the pandemic. Despite being restricted from owning a firearm, he legally purchased a lethal airgun and tragically took his own life. This should have never happened. Currently, some modern airguns are as deadly as traditional firearms yet aren't regulated as guns. This allows anyone to bypass background checks and effectively buy a firearm no matter what. That is why I am introducing Garrett's Law, which would designate lethal, high-powered airguns as firearms and extend gun safety protections to them. Garrett should still be here today. His family should have never had to endure this unthinkable tragedy. We should treat all lethal guns like guns. Mr. Speaker, I urge my colleagues to support the bill and close this deadly loophole. ____________________
