Congressional Record, Volume 172 Issue 160 (Tuesday, October 13, 2026) [Congressional Record Volume 172, Number 160 (Tuesday, October 13, 2026)] [Extensions of Remarks] [Pages E1075-E1076] From the Congressional Record Online through the Government Publishing Office [ www.gpo.gov ] RECOGNIZING CHARLES ``CHUCK'' THROOP WITH A CONGRESSIONAL VETERAN COMMENDATION ______ HON. PETE SESSIONS of texas in the house of representatives Tuesday, October 13, 2026 Mr. SESSIONS. Mr. Speaker, I rise today to honor Charles ``Chuck'' Throop of Hutto, Texas, by presenting him with a Congressional Veteran Commendation. His service to our country and dedication to serving his community truly represent the best of the best in our country. Charles Throop's primary occupational specialty was as a computer systems analyst with the United States Air Force. His service with the 1137th USAF Special Activities Squadron is particularly noteworthy. During the Vietnam era, special activities squadrons supported highly sensitive communications, intelligence, command-and-control, and classified operations. Chuck's decorations and awards include Air Force Commendation Medal, National Defense Service Medal, Vietnam Service Medal, Republic of Vietnam Campaign Medal, Air Force Outstanding Unit Award, and Presidential Unit Citation. After seven years of honorable service in the Air Force, Chuck turned to the community, which he serves with the utmost dedication to this day in Hutto and the surrounding areas. Over the last year and a half, Chuck has served as the volunteer leader of the City of Hutto's Diversity, Equity, Inclusion, and Belonging Commission's Senior Citizen Working Group. Chuck personally sought the assistance of churches, nonprofits, civic groups, and other related community partners. Chuck expanded his efforts beyond Hutto by attending regional conferences and meetings. Chuck partnered with the Hutto American Legion to secure a permanent meeting spot for the Senior Citizen Working Group. Chuck provided his own resources and time to events like Bingo night and several other social activities. He has personally staffed booths at resource fairs. recruiting volunteers and encouraging community participation. Not only in his efforts does Chuck encourage this participation, but by following Chuck, residents have been positively influenced to become informed, participate in the system, and contribute to their community. Chuck embodies what citizen leadership looks like, Through his discipline, optimism, humility, and infectious sense of humor, he has brought people together, built lasting friendships, and created a model for grassroots civic engagement that continues to inspire others. It is with great honor and respect that I present United States Air Force Special Activities Squadron Staff Sergeant E-4 Charles ``Chuck'' Throop with a Congressional Veteran Commendation from the 17th Congressional District of Texas. His community leadership reflects the same values of dedicated service that his military service did decades ago. [[Page E1076]] ____________________
