Congressional Record, Volume 172 Issue 146 (Wednesday, September 16, 2026) [Congressional Record Volume 172, Number 146 (Wednesday, September 16, 2026)] [Extensions of Remarks] [Page E936] From the Congressional Record Online through the Government Publishing Office [ www.gpo.gov ] HONORING THE 200TH ANNIVERSARY OF FOUNTAIN COUNTY INDIANA ______ HON. JAMES R. BAIRD of indiana in the house of representatives Wednesday, September 16, 2026 Mr. BAIRD. Mr. Speaker, I rise today to celebrate the 200th anniversary of Fountain County Indiana. Fountain was formed along the Wabash River on April 1st, 1826. Two hundred years later, Fountain has grown into a thriving community with a rich history and culture. A beautiful Art Deco courthouse sits on the square in Fountain. Known for gorgeous murals lining its hallways and depicting the settlement of western Indiana, it really is a masterpiece. Another historic spot is the Cades Mill Covered Bridge, the oldest covered bridge in Indiana. The steel industry has been a longstanding presence in Fountain for over 100 years through the company Harrison Steel. Bricking is another industry in Fountain. Bricks from the county have stood up over 25 Purdue University buildings and helped pave the Indianapolis 500 track, famously monikered as the ``Brickyard.'' Fountain County truly has played a remarkable role in our state's history. I congratulate everyone from Fountain County on their bicentennial. ____________________
