ROGERS, Ark. - During the congressional recess, U.S. Senator John Boozman of Arkansas sat down with 40/29 News. He talked about a number of issues including new legislation dubbed the Farm Bill 2.0. "With the original farm bill a year ago in the big beautiful building, we were able to increase farm investment over the next five years by $68 billion which is a massive amount of money, the most ever in a farm bill, and the reason we were able to do that was because agriculture is such that if you're growing something in the ground right now, you're losing money," Boozman said. "If we're not careful, we're going to lose 20 25% of our farmers in the next two or three years. So, it's the good news is, is the public is starting to understand that Congress understands it, and so they're putting the resources in that we need, so we're able to pass that farm bill. Now we've got to finish it out, and so this farm bill, the primary thing has to do with increasing loan limits, but also invest in rural America," Boozman said. "You've got to have, you know, if you're a farmer and you're living in rural America, you've got to have a place that you want to live in, so this invest in broadband, invest in water infrastructure in rural America, even health care, and even childcare. So, again, quality of life issues that we've got to have to keep our farmers on the farm is important, so that those generational farms, young people want to go back to the farm to continue this tradition, which is so, so very important."
