Rep. Evans leads calls for changes to Colorado immigration policies Rep. Evans leads calls for changes to Colorado immigration policies Delanie.Bomar@… Wed, 01/22/2025 - 12:22 Image Congressman Gabe Evans is leading an effort to apply pressure on Governor Jared Polis to seek answers on what exactly Polis plans to do about the state’s immigration problems. Evans penned a letter with Congressman Jeff Crank (CO-05) and Congresswoman Lauren Boebert (CO-04) in response to Polis’ recent State of the State address, in which he completely backtracked on his previous rhetoric about immigration. Read the letter here or see highlights below: ➡️ “We write to you seeking clarification regarding your recent comments during your State of the State Address last week.” ➡️ “A recent study found that Denver alone is spending well over $100 million a year because of sanctuary policies. This crisis has been fueled by misguided policies from the State Legislature.” ➡️ “If you are genuine in your intention to increase cooperation between Colorado law enforcement and federal immigration authorities to help remove dangerous illegal immigrants from our streets, we ask that you take immediate actions […] Until then, your plans are nothing more than empty and politically motivated rhetoric and Coloradans deserve better than that.” Background: Polis has promoted sanctuary state policies that made life more dangerous for Coloradans and more difficult for law enforcement, leading to situations like the migrant crisis in Denver – which has disrupted Colorado’s school and hospital systems – and an immigrant gang Tren De Aragua in Aurora . Polis has made it more difficult for local Colorado law enforcement to hold dangerous illegal immigrants accountable by preventing ICE and local law enforcement from coordinating with each other.
