Rep. Sewell Celebrates Selection of Former Birmingham-Southern Campus as New Coast Guard Training Facility

Washington D.C. - Today, U.S. Rep. Terri Sewell (AL-07) celebrated the selection of the former Birmingham-Southern College campus as the site of a new U.S. Coast Guard training facility. "After a nationwide selection process, I couldn't be happier that the former Birmingham-Southern campus has been chosen to serve as a new Coast Guard training facility!" celebrated Rep. Sewell. "The Birmingham-Southern campus has served as a cultural and economic anchor for more than a century. This monumental investment will breathe new life into the campus while bringing hundreds of new jobs and economic opportunities to the surrounding communities. We in Alabama are thrilled to continue playing a central role in supporting the brave men and women of our Armed Forces!" Today's announcement follows the launch of a nationwide selection process in November 2025 to identify locations for an additional Coast Guard training center. The facility will be used to support projected service growth of up to 15,000 personnel. ###
