RECOGNIZING EASTMAN LEADERSHIP ACADEMY

Congressional Record, Volume 172 Issue 96 (Monday, June 8, 2026) [Congressional Record Volume 172, Number 96 (Monday, June 8, 2026)] [House] [Page H3978] From the Congressional Record Online through the Government Publishing Office [ www.gpo.gov ] RECOGNIZING EASTMAN LEADERSHIP ACADEMY (Mr. DAVIS of North Carolina asked and was given permission to address the House for 1 minute and to revise and extend his remarks.) Mr. DAVIS of North Carolina. Mr. Speaker, it is a proud history, a new beginning, and a brighter future for eastern North Carolina. After closing in 2009, the historic Eastman School in Halifax County is reopening its doors as Eastman Leadership Academy. From its humble beginnings in 1894, serving generations of families, to closing due to consolidation, Eastman's story has always been about community. Soon, students will fill these hallways again: learning, growing, and writing the next chapter of this incredible legacy. With the dedicated vision of Superintendent Cunningham, the Halifax County Board of Education, and the Board of Commissioners, the school will serve students in kindergarten through eighth grade. Eastman's reopening is a reminder that when communities invest in education, they are investing in new opportunities, leadership, and the future. ____________________
