Congressman Rogers Joins State & Local Leaders to Announce Funding for London-Corbin Airport Tornado Recovery Renovations

LONDON, KY - U.S. Rep. Harold "Hal" Rogers (KY-05) joined state and local leaders at the London-Corbin Airport on Tuesday to deliver a check for $2 million in Community Project Funding for airport terminal renovations. Congressman Rogers also announced $6.5 million in federal funding from the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) to help repair and replace airport facilities that were damaged by an EF-4 tornado on May 16, 2025. "Despite suffering severe damage and heavy tornado debris at the London-Corbin Airport, it became the headquarters for emergency operations and a distribution center of hope for survivors across the county. The federal and state funding delivered today will go a long way, to help repair and rebuild airport facilities. It will also modernize the terminal to advance economic development opportunities for a brighter future," said Congressman Rogers, a senior member of the House Appropriations Committee . "I'm proud work in tandem with our state legislators to pull together the necessary funding to get the work underway." "Over the last year, we have been focused on cleanup and recovery efforts. It's exciting to now focus on rebuilding and reworking the airport terminal and our hangar to be more efficient for our customers and our region," said Matt Singer, London-Corbin Airport Manager. "We are thankful for the funding support of our federal, state and local leaders." State Senator Brandon Storm and State Representatives Derek Lewis, Josh Bray, Tom O'Dell Smith, Nick Wilson, Timmy Truett and Shane Baker helped secure $4 million in state funding to renovate the terminal, repair the hangar and other airport facilities. Senator Storm and State Representatives Truett and Baker presented a check to the airport board during the event. "Before the break of dawn on May 17, 2025, we knew state and federal resources would be necessary to recover and rebuild our community after the tornado. It is inspiring to see the transformation that has taken place at the airport and how this funding will not only help with repairs, but it will pave the way for new industrial development," said State Sen. Brandon Storm . "We have been working with Congressman Rogers on this project from day one, and we are grateful to get this much needed funding for our community." "I was proud to work with other House and Senate members from Laurel County to help secure state funding for this project, and I'm grateful for Congressman Rogers' partnership at the federal level as well," said State Rep. Derek Lewis . "We pulled up our bootstraps and went to work for the people of Laurel County to recover from the tornado, together. This airport was critical to recovery operations for months, and it's great to celebrate a new vision at the airport for economic growth and strength for Laurel and surrounding counties."
